Death, Rebirth and a Whole New Attitude

On October 11th, 2018 I suffered a major heart attack and went into cardiac arrest on duty. I thought my career was over; my life’s work had come to an end. Little did I know, it was just the beginning. My pity party quickly turned into motivation to be even better after learning of the death of a fella Virginia Firefighter on the same day. The months at home off duty gave me time to reflect on my performance as a leader at home and on the job or as it turned out, lack thereof. A complete shift in attitude was the catalyst to personal and professional success but more importantly allowed me the privilege to help others succeed as well. We have created 12 simple rules to succeed at home and in the firehouse.
