Surviving the Job

June 17 @ 14:45 - 16:30

Free

***IMPORTANT: Room number updated on Friday, June 14th

In today’s hostile fire environment what are signs and signals that indicate the strategic, tactical and task options need to change? This 1 1/2 hour workshop will take the scientific research completed by various institutes and apply it to today’s fire departments. This workshop will also examine the impact staffing or limited staffing has on fire-ground operations. In recent years the fire environment has significantly changed due to fuel loads and construction materials. Rapid fire growth is now completed in some cases less than 5 minutes after ignition. The time it takes to go from a room and contents to the involvement of structural components has also been reduced significantly. Firefighters are at additional risk if we fail to recognize and accept the changes in fire dynamics. This workshop will discuss the research and the changes in tactical application of the strategy selected by the Incident Commander.
