The Successful Short-Staffed Engine

Short Staffing is becoming the norm across America. Instead of giving up, Fire Departments have created ways to overcome. This course focuses on the Engine and how they have overcome the handcuffs of short staffing. It discusses the responsibilities of the Operator, Officer and Nozzleman individually and as a team to keep and increase effectiveness on the fireground. Topics include mindset, positioning, riding and apparatus assignments, hoseline selection and operation, fire attack principles, crew integrity and other force multipliers.

1. At the conclusion of the class, the student shall be able to recite the positions required on a short staffed engine.
2. At the conclusion of the class, the student shall be able to name the tools necessary for success at each position.
3. At the conclusion of the class, the student shall be able to recall the necessary functions of each position as it relates to the success of the team.
4. At the conclusion of class, the student shall demonstrate an understanding of training ideas that can be used to create successful operations with a short staffed crew
