Presented by: Mary Alice Van Hoy, RN; Manager, Shore Emerg. Care, Queenstown, MD

Room 204

It is estimated that > 90% of drownings are preventable. When water is aspirated into the airways, a cascade pf physiological events occur effecting ventilation and perfusion with long term effects and death. Early recognition and interventions are vital for any patients even those with short exposure. Don’t let the less acute presentation affect your assessment; It can be the calm before the storm.
