Child and Babysitting safety is intended for teens and young adults (13-18 years) interested in babysitting as a business, or who have responsibility for younger family members. This course gives teenagers and young adults everything they need to know for safe and successful babysitting. Topics covered include getting started with their business, dealing with parents and children, and key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips.
Participants will be encouraged to treat babysitting as a business and will be provided guidance on how to operate, to include safe promotion of self and resume building. They will be taught how to conduct a safety check prior to a babysitting job. Participants will learn age-appropriate activities for different age groups and how to care for feeding and diapering of age groups. Hands-on activities will be included to help enforce skills being taught. In addition, participants will be taught basic first aid tips, when to call for additional help, who to call when, and how to care for the children until more advanced help arrives.
A parent/guardian must arrive at the session with the participant to sign applicable releases and remain within 30 minutes of the convention center for the duration of the program.
Objectives:
-Describe the importance of managing the job with confidence.
-Describe the important and steps of a safety check.
-Describe age-appropriate playtime activities for infants, toddlers, and kids.
-Describe how to recognize the severity and type of problem facing a babysitter.
-Describe how to protect yourself and the children if a problem becomes threatening.
-Describe how to react when you babysitting environment becomes unsafe.
